It was 2006, and most people had barely heard of Facebook, let alone understood its potential for a business like Su-Kam. But Mr. Kunwer Sachdev—always ahead of his time—had already recognised that this platform could change the way a company communicates, collaborates, and connects.
Consider what 2006 actually looked like. Facebook had only just opened its doors to the general public that September; before that it had been walled off to college students. In India, broadband was still a luxury, smartphones were years away, and the idea of a power-backup manufacturer using a social network as a business and community tool was simply unimaginable. Companies relied on email, trade fairs and phone calls. No one in the Indian industry was thinking about social media — and certainly not an inverter and solar company. That a manufacturer from Delhi looked at a year-old student website and saw the future of corporate engagement is, in hindsight, remarkable. Kunwer Sachdev did exactly that.

The Birth of Su-Kam’s Facebook Community
One afternoon, Mr. Sachdev gathered a few colleagues in his office, his eyes gleaming with excitement. “This is the future,” he said, showing them Facebook on his computer screen. While social media was still uncharted territory for businesses in India, he saw it as a tool to bring Su-Kam’s people together—employees, dealers, distributors and customers alike.
With his characteristic enthusiasm, he personally created Su-Kam’s first official Facebook page. But he didn’t stop there. He made sure everyone understood its significance. He conducted training sessions, encouraging employees to create their own Facebook profiles, connect with one another, and start sharing their achievements and experiences. This wasn’t just about marketing—it was about building a digital family within Su-Kam.

How Facebook Transformed Su-Kam’s Culture
What happened next was extraordinary. Before Facebook, communication across different departments and locations was fragmented. But once the page was up and running, something remarkable happened:
Factory workers shared pictures of new inverter models they had assembled with pride.
Engineers posted updates about innovations and new product developments.
Dealers and distributors across India uploaded installation pictures, showcasing Su-Kam’s presence in homes and businesses everywhere.
Employees celebrated milestones together, from birthdays to product launches.
For the first time, people saw Su-Kam not just as a workplace but as a vibrant, connected ecosystem. There was a sense of pride, of belonging, of being part of something bigger than just a job. And at the centre of it all was Mr. Sachdev, constantly engaging, appreciating and encouraging the team through the platform.

The Man Who Saw the Future
Most companies took years to realise the power of social media, but Mr. Kunwer Sachdev had already integrated it into Su-Kam’s daily work culture back in 2006. He understood that a company isn’t just about its products—it’s about its people, their stories, and their passion. Facebook became a digital window into the heart of Su-Kam, where every success, no matter how small, was celebrated.
The page became a running record of the company’s reach — product launches, customer stories, and international projects from Africa to Southeast Asia. Many of those posts are preserved today in the Su-Kam Solar Facebook Archive, a primary-source record of the brand Kunwer Sachdev built.

Looking back, it is clear how far ahead of his time he was. While others were just waking up to social media, Su-Kam had already built a thriving, engaged online community—all thanks to one man’s vision. Kunwer Sachdev didn’t just lead a company—he built a family, and Facebook was its home.

A Digital Legacy That Remains
After Su-Kam went into bankruptcy and Mr. Kunwer Sachdev had to leave the company, the Facebook page he had so passionately built remained as a testament to his leadership and vision. Even though the page is no longer active, it still has more than 145,000 followers — a reminder of the community he created. It continues to hold memories of Su-Kam’s golden days, with old posts, images and achievements lying there as an untouched digital archive of his legacy. Though he has since moved on to new ventures, his impact on Su-Kam and its people remains immortalised in those posts, forever a part of history.
